Saltwater anglers would need to register with the federal government to go fishing next year, and starting in 2011 pay an annual fee between $15 and $25.
The goal of the proposal is to assemble a better database of recreational fishermen so they can be interviewed more thoroughly on what they catch. This information would be used to better manage fisheries.
The overbearing regulations of the federal government keep on growing whether the Republicans or the Democrats are in power. Hundreds of little regulations like this one flood out of Capitol Hill on a yearly basis and someone needs to plug that hole up and clean up the mess they are making. If I want to go fish for recreational purposes I don't think it is any of the government's business what I catch out in the ocean.
